This article outlines the Governance rules for accurate taskline usage in Sync. Note that Sync does not enforce these rules automatically. It is the responsibility of users and managers to follow them for accurate tracking and reporting.

KEY BUSINESS RULES BELOW:

1. Task Completion Rules

  • Only complete the first incomplete task.
  • You may complete a task out of sequence only if its duration is 0.

2. Task Delays and Variances

If a task cannot be completed on its projected (due) date, immediately:

  • Apply a variance.
  • Enter a reason for the variance.

Only taskline managers may apply variances outside of this scenario.

3. Early Completion

Only taskline managers may apply variances outside of this scenario.

If the first incomplete task is completed early:

  • Mark it complete to update the projected delivery date.

If not the first incomplete task:

  • Add a comment with a timestamp stating the task was completed.
  • Wait to mark as complete until it becomes the first incomplete task.

4. Overdue Tasks

  • The first overdue task is the only one that causes the job to be marked overdue.
  • Request action from responsible users (complete or variance their tasks) if your task is overdue.

5. Taskline Replanning

Taskline managers are the only users allowed to:

  • Change the original taskline plan.
  • Adjust durations.
  • Apply exceptional variances if required.

Do not use variances to replan, use task duration updates through the manager.
